Established in 1852 and located in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville district, Mercy is Chicago’s oldest chartered hospital and we have been serving our community for over 162 years.
Mercy combines the advanced capabilities of a major urban medical center with the humanistic focus of a community hospital. Our residents benefit from:

Faculty
The relationship between residents and faculty is a key element of any residency program. At Mercy, residents benefit from teaching physicians who are not only exceptionally knowledgeable, but are also approachable, supportive and adept at active coaching.

Mercy attracts a diverse group of residents from across the country and all have a wide range of interests and come from a variety of backgrounds.

The Family Birth Center at Mercy is a unique, full-service facility that offers leading-edge care from highly skilled physicians in a comfortable, nurturing setting.

Application for Residency
All applications must be received via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®). You may request an ERAS Application kit through your US medical school.
The deadline for submitting applications is the first Friday in November. Once your application is complete (including all supporting documents/references), it will be reviewed by our selection committee and selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Approximately 30% of all applicants are invited to interview.
